That for every single peep or ring they hear, they have to look at their phones right away because there that addicted to social media. What are we supposed to do about it? As a teenager I think that social media is the only thing in life that is worth spending time. The following statistic “Young adults act much like teens in their tendency to use sites. Fully 72% of online 18-29 year olds use social networking websites, nearly identical to the rate among teens, and significantly higher than the 39% of internet users age 30 and up who use these sites” demonstrates how not only are teenagers the problem but there are many parents who don’t seem to care if their kids are on social media all day because they do the same thing (Winkler). Yeah anyone can say that we get to see what’s going on or what’s new, but most of the time it’s nothing but drama. Facebook is one of the Medias that are considered with the most drama involved in a daily basis. As the well-known writer and editor, Andrew Santella, puts “Social networks depend on the belief that we all have a story to tell, we all have some pictures to show and the world wants to hear from us.” Is trying to say that the world will always be posting pictures or tweets and that will distract us because we will do the same (Santella 47). This shows how social media is a distraction because for every single thing we do, we post it right away. Since there are millions of people in the world who have social media, for example, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc… they will always be posting things in which will seem interesting to us and that distracts us from our lives. My mom does not let me use my phone while I’m doing my homework because she knows that social media will distract me from getting my work done. Not only is social media a big distraction while working on homework, but it’s also a distraction having a phone in front of you in class. I know this because it’s happened to me and that’s why I either turn it off or get it out of my sight. I see many of my colleagues checking their phones when they hear a noise and not

According to Mashable, "You may think it 's harmless to check a tweet or respond to a personal message on Facebook, but it will take you 23 minutes to get back on track. A social media interruption occurs every 10.5 minutes on average, and people waste 41% of that time on Facebook” (Media and Productivity). As mentioned, it may seem innocent to take a slight break from work to check in and respond to a minor message, but the continuance of this pattern will impact all aspects of their lives when it comes to GPA and lost productivity in the workplace. Indeed, research has shown that increased parent participation is a critical influence on student success. Social networking is a dicey tool that while allowing teacher to increase the level of communication using a recognizable social media format, possesses inherently a high risk of distraction.
