“Slavery takes hold of few, but many take hold of slavery.” Slavery has played a big part in the beginning of our country. It’s sad to think that something this horrid was once acceptable. Though slavery has been illegalized all over the world since 1981, there is still an estimated amount of thirty million slaves today. In fact, there are more slaves today than there ever was in our history. Initially, slaves in the past were mostly used for forced labour in agriculture, however it expanded as time went by. There are now more reasons for people to be enslaved.
There are six forms of slavery that exist today, some of them are human trafficking, child slavery, and bonded labour. These forms of slavery are forced on any age, gender, and ethnicity. Human trafficking is when men, women, or children are transported in another country with the use of oppression. The victims are mostly those who live in poverty, they are promised to a brighter future in another country, but often times those promises do not exist and they are instead forced into slavery. It’s a difficult question that definitely got me thinking. I believe that there can be a way for us to eradicate slavery once and for all, it will be something that cannot be done with only one country, every country would have to work together. One of the main things that needs to happen is the public awareness to slavery, we can all agree on the fact that a lot of people out there believe that slavery no longer exists. The main people we would have to target at is the most influential ones, like politicians or celebrities.
