How often do you see manipulation in your life? Will you know when its used? Are you aware of the consequences? Manipulation is a powerful tool, it is used to help accomplish one's goals but often comes with unseen consequences. People use manipulation to give themselves an advantage or to assist them accomplish their goals. The root cause of manipulation is the egocentric views and the feeling of necessity. Manipulation is used because it is human nature to think for themselves, but as a result there are downsides to being manipulative to get your way. She was very skilled at the art of manipulation and she was able to use it to control macbeth and help gain power for him and herself. Her main use was to influence Macbeth’s decisions, which ended up giving her a more masculine position and more power over the kingdom. She has a large desire to become queen and to assist her husband to be king. Lady Macbeth is manipulative by nature and uses the prophecies of the 3 witches as a base for her being able to repeatedly claim that her husband is cowardly or does not possess the manliness to go through with murder. She knows that the only way to gain power and to become rulers is to kill King Duncan. She convinces her husband to go through with the murder by calling him a coward and claiming that he is weak. She says, “Wouldst thou have that Which thou esteem’st the ornament of life, And live a coward in thine own esteem, Letting “I dare not” wait upon “I would, ” (1.7.2) In this statement she essentially says, will you take control of the crown like you want or will you be a coward and live life saying I can’t. It shows how she manipulated him into doing something that she wanted. As the story progresses, the action and continued murders that were started by her, lead to the eventual death of both her and her husband and the surrender of the crown.
