William Shakespeare was one of the greatest writers this world has ever known, producing novels such as Macbeth, Hamlet, Othello, and Romeo and Juliet. One of the most important pieces in creating such novelties were his ability to use emotion to captivate the reader. In Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare uses romance, anger, sadness, and humor consistently. Even though his novels are written in old English, they are still interesting because of his writing and poetic skill. William Shakespeare uses emotions and feelings to provide a visual interpretation of his books, which causes his novels to become highly intriguing.

William Shakespeare created the characters of Nurse and Mercutio. Nurse and Mercutio are the “sidekicks” of Romeo and Juliet. Nurse is very humorous, and a loyal companion of Juliet’s, she helps her pursue Romeo just because it would make Juliet happy. In the early stages of the novel, Paris (a companion of the Capulet’s) wants to court Juliet and to have her hand in marriage. Juliet’s mother, Lady Capulet, wants Juliet to become engaged to Paris. In this discussion, Nurse remarks, “An [honor?] Were not that I thine only nurse, I would say thou hadst sucked wisdom from thy teat… A man, young lady-lady, such a man as all the world-why, he’s a man of wax” (pg. 39). Nurse was comparing Paris to a “man of wax” because she believes he is perfect on the outside. He has no blemishes, no marks, like a wax statue. Mercutio is the best friend of Romeo, amusing, clear tempered, and faithful. He always provides a good example of Romeo, keeping his head out of the sand. When Romeo is worried about Rosaline, Mercutio cheers him up. When Romeo is worried about the banquet, Mercutio cheers him up. What is a sign of an impeccable writing ability is that Shakespeare made sure Mercutio always helps Romeo in a funny way. Mercutio even created the character of Queen Mab, a fictional fairy-like creature that would intensify the views of others. Mercutio told Romeo, “O, then I see Queen Mab hath been with you. She is the fairies’ midwife, and she comes in shape no bigger than an agate stone on the forefinger of an alderman drawn with the team of little [atomi] over men’s noses as they lie asleep…” (pg. 47). It takes someone with a high level of humor and wit to be able to come over with Queen Mab on the spot. Mercutio attempts to make Romeo laugh, which he did.
