Sexism in Everything America has come a long way facing sexism through time. In the forties women were expected to be a housewife, now women are taking on jobs that most people thought only men could do. Even though there have been breakthroughs, there are still some issues that should be addressed. No matter who you are or where you are from there will be a time when you will be exposed to sexism. Sexism is a category of oppression where people discriminate others based on their sex or gender. This can range all the way from just casual remarks that are easily let go to very extreme cases that could affect a person for the rest of their life. In Saudi Arabia, women are not allowed to drive. A militant group called Lashkar-e-Jabar forced Muslim women in Kashmir to wear head to toe garments that cover their clothes. Saudi women have to be escorted by a male guardian known as a 'mahram' whenever they leave their home. “In one extreme case, a teenager reported that she had been gang-raped, but because she was not with a mahram when it occurred, she was punished by the court. The victim was given more lashes than one of her alleged rapists received,” the Washington Post reported. The most extreme case of sexism is what is known as sex trafficking. Sex trafficking is a form of modern slavery that occurs throughout the United States and globally. Sex traffickers use violence, threats, and other forms of intimidation to enforce children and adults to engage in financial sexual acts against their will. Many victims became romantically involved with a person who then forced them or manipulated them into prostitution. Others are brought in with false promises of a job like modeling or dancing. Many think that we have came a long way through time and now we are all equal. The case is not exactly as it seems. You should fight against sexism to a small extent by encouraging awareness. There are many simple things that you can do to help end sexism. One thing is do not feed into it, but also do not ignore it. If you see a case of sexism, whether it is small of big, do something about it. “Express yourself, and be heard” (). Any little thing could end up turning into something huge to benefit from. “BuzzFeed of a Berkeley investigation that found famous exoplanet hunter Geoff Marcy sexually harassed his students... A few astronomers began circulating a petition in support of his victims the night before the BuzzFeed story published, after Marcy posted an apology on his website. In the minutes after BuzzFeed’s story went live. The petition now has 3,000 names.” (). What these people did on behalf of those young women is just one amazing thing that could be done to help fight sexism. The petition had the effect of letting people know about some of the terrible things that happen all the time in today’s society. It is not hard hard to reach out and help
