I have reason to believe Auggie going to school had a huge positive impact on his life. In the beginning of the book Auggie makes friends with Jack who throughout the book will be one of his best friends. Toward the end of the last of the book Auggie goes to his fifth grade graduation where he receives the Henry Ward Beecher medal. This award goes to whoever made the most progress through the year and who had the most impact on the people around them, this award went to August Pullman. The author writes, on page 306, “And then the most amazing thing happened: everyone started standing up. Not just the front rows but the whole audience suddenly just got up on their feet, whooping, hollering, clapping like crazy. It was a standing ovation for me.” Auggie was appreciated for all of the hard work he had done throughout the year. Proving to Auggie that he is loved, wanted, and appreciated, and going to school was a great idea that had a positive impact on him and his life.
Other people would argue that August going to school had a negative impact. School wasn’t always good for Auggie. In the book it says, “ February was when it was the worst. That’s when practically nobody was talking to us, and Julian had started leaving notes in our lockers. The notes to Jack were stupid like: You stink big cheese! And Nobody likes you anymore! I got notes like: Freak! And another one said get out of our school,orc,” (page 208). People didn’t necessarily like Auggie or his face at first, and they made sure to let him know. But things got better as time went
