A Christ Figure can be used to represent Jesus Christ throughout a piece of literature. This literary device will show how a character will sacrifice himself for the improvement of the people around him. In the novels A Separate Peace, One Flew Over the Cuckoo 's Nest, and the film Cool Hand Luke, characters are represented as Christ Figures. A Christ Figure shows their followers an alternate approach to an idea or a situation.…
The American judicial system is riddled with corruption, racism, and privilege. In his book, Just Mercy, author and lawyer Bryan Stevenson chronicles the unfortunate and rapid deterioration of the mental health of his client and friend Walter McMillian following his release from death row. Mental illness resulting from wrongful imprisonment on death row stands as a deplorable and preventable collateral consequence of the negligence of the judicial system. The trauma of the death row experience as an innocent man sparks Walter’s symptoms of anxiety and dementia.…

The book Anthem is a book about Equality 7-2521, a man who lives in a collective society with his “brothers” (coworkers) that the government assigns to him. He must learn to live as an equal with his “brothers”, as Equality 7-2521 likes to somewhat bend the rules even though he doesn’t come out right in saying it. As the story goes on to do everything that the government outlaws, as he starts to grow feelings for somebody and he even starts to do a job he was not appointed. These are all illegal, as in this collective world you can not be better than anybody in any way, as everybody is appointed their spot in society and must follow this role. The book overall does a very good job with trying to show the way a collective society works and does a good job of putting you in the protagonist's shoes.…
Flannery O’Conner is an author that intrigues her audience with her style of writing. O’Conner’s writing tends to be dark and can be grotesque. She uses those techniques so that her readers can get a feel of what is going on in the story. She wants her audiences to “feel it in their bones”. O’Conner’s writing has a good amount of religious background to it.…
Power may always seem like a good thing but power may also be limiting. In Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, a lot of the symbols have the same meaning. They symbolize, both, power and limitation. With every great thing there is a downfall and that is exactly what happened with all of the symbols in the book.…
Through the use of first-person narration, the reader is allowed to stick with Luke and only Luke. The story lets the reader get to know his thoughts thought the whole story. The use of “I” and “me,” on every page of the short story allows the reader to connect and understand Luke’s thought such as, when he says, “I had the thought that I would run down the hill and help the boy. I would help the boy and then I would send an e-mail to Becky telling her what I had done” (1207).…
It is a father’s love for his daughter that leads to Luke's dilemma between pursuing the truth to doing what is just and right, and love of the daughter. " A Father's Story," by Andre Dubus explores the love of a father to his daughter that he is willing to protect her even if the process calls for him to sacrifice part of himself. To protect his daughter, the father is forced to undergo challenges, a conflict of the mind and his values. In the story, Luke Ripley who is the protagonist drops his core principles and ethical values purposely to protect his daughter. I agree that the central conflict in "A Father's story" is a betrayal of a friend's trust and personal values and ethics for the sake of love.…
The Road Leading to Romance The pleasure of escapism is an ageless one. For an eighty-two-year-old picture whose main storyline and pun centers on the sexual innocence of its key female character, It Happened One Night is nonetheless astonishingly innovative. Theoretically, it happens upon the course of 4 nights.…
The Broader Context: The Gospel of Luke In order to best understand how to properly interpret Luke 16:1-13, it is best to first read the passage in light of its surrounding context—the entire book of Luke. In his introduction, Luke clearly states his purpose in writing this gospel: “so that you may know the exact truth about the things you have been taught,” (Luke 1:4). This is Luke 's purpose statement, but what is the truth the Luke is trying to demonstrate? The main theme Luke wants to convey, this “exact truth,” in his gospel is that Jesus of Nazareth is the Messianic Servant to all humankind.…

Erik Ravelo, the artist who created the text above, had always gotten his artwork censored as he had always created multiple controversial and offensive images for its audience. “Los Intocables” is one out of his many artworks that had brought up arguments and debates regarding his approach to communicate and manifest the deeper meaning behind the picture. Ravelo created “Los Intocables”, which interprets to “The Untouchables” to promote a campaign – Unhate foundation campaign, with the theme of “The right to childhood should be untouchable”. The image depicted a child adopting a crucified position, representing a similar position of a central figure of Christianity, Jesus.
