Love can affect the things we hold the dearest. In Romeo and Juliet, it can play a role in murders like that of Mercutio and Tybalt. It can also help make decisions that are regretted later, something that Juliet herself is prone to accomplishing. The Tragedy Romeo and Juliet exemplifies how young love plays a role in sacrifice and impulsive decisions. One of the biggest things that love can influence is sacrifice. Juliet pleads for Romeo to “deny [his] father and refuse [his] name” (Romeo and Juliet 2.2.34). Juliet asks for Romeo not to be a Montague, the blood enemies of the Capulets, or Juliet’s family. Tybalt made an impulsive decision when he sees Romeo and exclaims “Therefore turn and draw” (Romeo and Juliet 3.1.63). Tybalt will regret this decision, as it did lead to him getting killed by Romeo by the end of the scene. Romeo’s relationship with Juliet led to Tybalt’s impulse to try to kill Romeo. Instead, Romeo does not want to fight Tybalt, which leads to a duel between Mercutio and Tybalt that ends with both of them dying.
