In “All Summer in a Day,” Bradbury describes his setting using similes and metaphors. For example, “ It was a nest of octopi, clustering up great arms of flesh-like weed, wavering, flowering this brief spring.” When I read this line, I imagined a jungle with so many tall trees and plants, so tall, you could barely see the sky as you went in. Using the metaphors and similes that are included in “All Summer in a Day,” helps us create a vivid image in our head whereas the movie, the setting was nothing like the short story.…

Everyone has an aspiration to fit in, but it is not worth giving up one's individuality. In Ray Bradbury’s story, “All Summer in a Day”, he tells of children that end up giving up their individual morals, and then regret it. Similarly, in the writings of “Ponies” and “Harrison Bergeron”, the writers KIJ Johnson and Kurt Vonnegut Jr. speak of characters who want to fit in, but end up giving up their uniqueness to do so. They end up feeling remorse about trying to fit in. Fitting in can have a negative effect- causing someone to lose what’s different about them.…

Margot’s rash actions emphasizes her opinion of herself and further contrasts the differences between her and Francis. While she tends to be assertive and reactive, Francis remains silent in times like these. It is likely Margot only thinks so highly of herself because Francis thinks lowly of himself. The two characters serve as foils. Without Francis to accentuate her puissance, Margot would not be nearly as confident and therefore, her attitude towards not only Francis but a majority of people would be different.…

When I first began reading Fahrenheit 451 I was skeptical of how it would turn out. As I read the book I noticed that there was a lot of figurative language. As soon as I noticed this I knew that I had to add it to my essay. Bradbury had a way with words and bringing the characters in the story alive with metaphors and imagery words, and I think that this is what made me like him so much as an author. As I went through and analyzed the text and what was put into the book, what type of fiction it is, and when and where the story took place, it made me wonder why he wrote the book.…

In the beginning of the story, the kids were very rude towards Margot but by the end that all changed. Bradbury painted a very vivid scene in the reader's head, the text stated, “They walked slowly down the hall in the sound of cold rain. They turned through the doorway to the room in the sound of the storm and thunder, lightning on their faces, blue and terrible. They walked over to the closet door slowly and stood by it.” The reason Bradbury wrote this piece is to build suspense and make the reader anxious.…
