How Does Rainsford Survive In The Most Dangerous Game

According to the Webster- Merriam Dictionary, survival means “the state or fact of continuing to live or exist in spite of difficult conditions.” In “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, Rainsford is hunted by Zaroff and despite the many obstacles, Rainsford is able to kill him. In “My Escape from North Korea” by Hyeonseo Lee, Lee explains the details of her difficulties on avoiding getting caught by police. In “Trapped” by Aron Rolston, he gets his arm stuck under a rock and describes how he lived through this experience by himself. In all three of these stories, the main character has showed some important survival trait that has been necessary to their success. To begin with, in “The Most Dangerous Game,” the trait Rainsford shows is intrinsic motivation. In page 7, Rainsford persuades himself to steadily swim to the island. He could have easily just given up, realizing that he would die by himself. However, …show more content…
In Page 2, Chinese police are questioning her, but she “…managed to control all of the emotions inside me [Lee], and answer the questions,” as she was able to make them believe that she was not North Korean. She was able to disguise her origin, so she could be free from North Korea. If she wasn’t able to respond, she would have been sent back, and could be persecuted by law enforcement or even executed. Her survival trait kept her escape going. “As the Chinese officer approached my family, I impulsively stood up, and I told him that these are deaf and dumb people that I was chaperoning” (Page 14.) In this paragraph, she has her family with her, and her response could have ended up with her whole family in trouble.
