How Does Race Affect Our Society

I feel like I've been ranting a lot lately lol. This is for my fellow muslim brothers and sisters. I just want to say that just because we are muslim, doesn't mean we share the same lived experiences, the same oppressions, the same privileges, the same races, ethnicity, or sects as one another. We are still muslim, yes, however we need to acknowledge that. The Prophet SAW said "The parable of the believers in their affection, mercy, and compassion for each other is that of a body. When any limb aches, the whole body reacts with sleeplessness and fever.” This doesn’t mean we derail issues under the guise of “One Ummah,” this doesn’t mean we universalize or erase the oppressions of people who are part of this ummah, or avoid the topic of race. Although race is socially constructed, it has been made to be very real. Race shapes our experiences, it informs policy, laws, regulations and is part of our identities and where we stand in the world. The day we stop trying to cater and prove ourselves compliant to this system, is the day we are able to mobilize, be present, be visible, and help create a more equitable society. To all my white converts, I love you, but seriously, please acknowledge that you are still significantly more privileged than muslim poc including black muslims. Please acknowledge your race and your racial standing among others, this includes non-black poc. Please stop co-opting your muslim identity with other fellow muslims who are dealing with structural and social racism. You may be able to take off your hijab or shave your beard but actual POC can’t take off their race especially when they are black and they’re dealing with not only Islamphobia, but institutionalized racism, anti-blackness, and state
