To the well organized mind, death is but the next great adventure; at least through the eyes of one Albus Dumbledore, when he is asked why he doesn’t fear the thought of dying (Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, 215). “The Seventh Seal”, a film by Ingman Bergman, however, dramatizes death as a character the protagonist interacts with and not simply an unavoidable force a nature to be faced at any given moment. Death walks among man in the blank-and-white film, even if it is only witnessed by two of the characters for most of the movie until the very end. The main protagonist, Antonius Block, meets Death straight away as the film opens up on a beach where it seems only he and his Squire, Jöns, are the survivors of a shipwreck.…

Centuries ago, death was not so much a dark topic for people to discuss. They acknowledged that death was an imminent affair and that it was better to live life without fearing the pain that accompanied death. Stolberg mentions that “[i]n the Middle Ages, Christian monks greeted one another with the salutation Momento Mori, remember that you must die” (485). In todays’ society, death is viewed as a taboo. People view others who welcome death as outsiders or plagues, simply because they may feel that if they associate themselves with those types of people, they are also welcoming death into their lives.…

In my moments of insecurity at the end of my life, I will find comfort in the fact that love, peace, reunion, and explanations to life lessons await me on the other…

My Way When I was at preschool, I was told that when I died I would come back to a tranquil place, but little did I know that was not true. I was youthful, full of innocence, and unaware of anything happening outside of the little cocoon I called preschool. I would always walk into preschool, with a foolish grin on my face, knowing nothing was awry in my world. One thing in particular that really frightened me at that time was dying.
