How Does Prejudice Occur

One may wonder; why does prejudice occur? Prejudice is a concept we are taught. One is not simply born to resent specific concepts or people, he or she is taught it. Some favorably known prejudices are racism, sexism, homophobia, and religious prejudice. It seems as if our society will never be able to eradicate prejudice because it is a fixed condition in our mind due to our unconscious bias. Many oppose prejudice, yet continue to be prejudice and do nothing to aid society as a whole. There are certain people in today’s world that feel looked down upon and of lesser value due to prejudice; it does not allow these individuals to function effectively in society. Disposing of prejudice entire could not occur instantly—not days, weeks, nor months—it would take decades. Our society is remarkably gullible in believing anything that they hear. Although it is ethical to be open-minded, have a broad background on the topic before engaging in conversation. Many individuals base their judgments and categorize people the way they do based off of other’s beliefs. If we could retire from forcing our prejudice views upon children, they would no longer feel as if they are required to have hatred towards certain people and could then pass this trait on to the next generation.
Another way to minimize prejudice would be to get educated. Develop an educational lecture on prejudice to understand the facts. Many people do not realize that these negative attitudes create a less-efficient society. I feel as if this is not as big of an issue as it was fifty to one hundred years ago due to equality laws being passed. These laws were passed to make individuals feel of equal value, although inequality still exists in many aspects of life. Learning about prejudice biases can give one self-insight and ambition in order to take on the voyage to
