The Global North can be considered North America, Europe and parts of Asia. This is the developed world that reigns supreme over the rest with economic success and stable governments. Though these places are stable they still are stricken with poverty. They have taken strides for the most part to combat it and have the resources to do so.

This leads to the family including the children to live at or under the poverty line. 1 in 4 children are being raised without a father and 45% of the children being raised by single mothers live below the poverty line. Immigration has also changed the regular family dynamics and influenced the number of the ones in poverty but as it ahs stabilized it is not as much of a contributing factor. Though immigrants that are single mothers and elderly are still in poverty. The United States has trouble keeping children and the elderly out of poverty. Hunger is also a leading factor in some of the countries in Latin America. The negative effects that poverty has are a negative effect on economic growth, low levels of human capital and high levels of crime. Poverty reduction is extremely hard in places such as Mexico and Brazil because of the increased amount of crime that takes place there. In Mexico there is a large gap between the rich and poor because as high skill jobs went up low skill jobs went down leaving a gap of large proportions between them. As parts of Latin America are still developing it is dependent on the market to bring poverty low and that will take a substantial amount of time. Welfare has been put in place though it just helps the very poor rather than bringing up everyone and preventing more from falling into
