Pink Floyd’s song Money is a representation of what society sees the American dream to be. Money has many roles in todays society whether it be just for spending to become a part of a higher class in society. Most people who have thought to themselves to have acquired the American dream have acquired vast amounts of money but won’t spare any due to their greed. Others will fight, rob, or even kill others so they can get the money that the other has on them. The song itself has another purpose and it is to tell you that what you see to be the American dream can also be another’s nightmare.
Money has many ways to be earned or gain either it be testing your luck with the lottery, working for it, or the more un condoned way, stealing it. The world revolves around the idea of money. There are classes that society has made to determine if you have high amounts of cash and if you have barely any at all. There any many schemes that are there to help you get rich quick and ways to get free stuff though the the idea of money is not what everyone thinks it is.

It goes A,A,B,B,C,C. Waters is trying to say that people thrive to get more and more money even though it really does’t do anything for them except make them feel “okay” about themselves. He refers to money as being a gas due to how it drives people to make it either by working or by other means. The last part of this verse I belive to be a metaphor of how rich they have become since being in the music industry for a while and they can get and have what ever they want no matter the cost, hence the new car and the football
