How Does Nutrition Affect Teens

Right around the time you reach your adolescent stage your body will have a heightened need for certain nutrients as well as energy. This is important because your nutrient needs during adolescence is higher than any of the subsequent stages or the previous stage. Getting the right amount of nutrients and eating healthy play a big part in your growth as well as your development which can have varying effects on your later stages in life.

Throughout early adolescence teens require a lot of calories to be more precise about 2,800 daily for boys and around 2,200 daily for girls. But there is a problem with this if they happen to be eating a lot of junk food and or find themselves over eating in general, Weight gain as well as over nutrition can be factors that play into their adult lives excess weight gained from adolescent years can be quite difficult to get rid of as well as lead to one becoming an obese adult. In fact according to the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry an obese teen has an 80% chance to become an obese adult later on in life. Which can have long-term risks of heart disease, diabetes and sleep

Although right around the time they reach the ages of 14 to 18 years boys require 52 grams of protein daily whereas girls only need 46 daily. All these nutrients will play important roles in your diet, carbs, proteins and fats. Carbs are a main energy source which aids in keeping blood sugar levels under control which can prevent you from having sudden energy crashes and may even improve focus. Protein contributes to keeping your organs and muscle growth healthy and are quite abundant in most diets from adolescence to your early adult stage. Eating healthy promotes clean skin and proper hair development and helps adolescents absorb their essential nutrients such as vitamins and minerals which help the body make new tissues and function
