Love at first sight: it is a concept of extreme and immediate emotional attachment that many throughout time have claimed to have felt. It is the instantaneous attraction towards a person whom one has seen for the first time. Everyone is familiar with the notion of the emotion, but what is the psychology and science behind this instant waterfall of affection? This sexual desire based upon appearance is prevalent to most mammals, not just humans, and is referred to by Dr. Helen E. Fisher as, “the intolerable neural itch,” (Fisher). The difference between other mammals and humans is that the latter can reason and think leading to the ability to love romantically. Knowing that humans can love romantically, many jump over the fact that the extreme desire they just felt may only be sexual attraction; consequently, they then attribute this desire to love.
