How Does Napoleon Use Ethos In Animal Farm

After reading Animal Farm by George Orwell, the reader can conclude that the pigs use rhetoric to manipulate the other animals in many certain ways. Ethos, pathos, and logos are the three rhetoric strategies that the pigs use. Animal Farm represents the “Russian Revolutionary War”. The three pigs all impersonate someone different in the war. Napoleon appears as Joseph Stalion. Squealer stands for the “Pravda Newspaper”. Lastly, Snowball assumes the role of the Leon Trotsky. In the “Russian Revolutionary War” Joseph Stalion was the one charge. He was head over it all. Stalion was not educated and caused many problems within Russia. Napoleon appears as him because Napoleon is the head pig, the one in charge, the one that all the animals listen to. In reference to the book, “If Comrade Napoleon says it, it must be right,” shows that the reader the credibility of Napoleon if this is what the animals respond to when Napoleon demands them. Napoleon’s use of tyranny ruining Snowball’s reputation is overlooked because of his credibility. With the use of ethos, the other animals on the farm are very affected because they all think he is in charge and they must follow what he says. When Napoleon goes around the farm bossing all the animals around and making himself look more important the rest of them, they feel like they have to listen and follow
