Bethany Cleg from Sydney, Australia, photographer, and author of Dressing to Your Own Beat: How Music Affects Style, an article published on the online magazine Millennial Magazine says, “what [strangers] wear can also be a good indication of their particular preference in music.” Her article shows that contemporary music, such as EDM, folk or indie, and hip hop and rap, tend to appeal to people who have specific styles. EDM listeners often wear bright, neon colors, fur, beads, and much more, while folk or indie listeners stereotypically wear long scarves, knit hats, and maybe a dreadlock or two (Cleg). Studies show that fashion in the 1960s was also important. According to Stacey Richardson, author of How the Music of the Sixties Influenced Fashion, an article published on leaf.tv, “The music scene was the voice of [the 60s] and heavily influenced the iconic fashions that were created during this decade.” Richardson’s research shows the first movement in fashion was inspired by Britain.
