How Does Music Affect Your Race

The adrenaline rush I feel on race day brings chills that run all throughout my physical structure. The gun shots fire and I am dashing off in an open field with hundreds of runners. Three miles does not seem so frightening, but when my body wants to shut down from the tiredness, I let myself emerge in the beat, words, and melody of the music. Music has the reassurance that I need to win in the race. Music affects my mood by helping me up with motivation from the music’s rhythm. During the first mile, I plug in my headphones- this helps me defeat the challenges I experience during the race. The beat of the music pounds my heart like a beating drum. The loudness and steady tempo help me improve my performance by establishing a steady running pace. The sensation I feel as a runner endures releases the negative tension and music helps bring out the positive. Because music effects a runner's pace it also affects their mood by increasing their confidence and making them feel undefeatable, this effect helps me as a runner by increasing my endurance during the first mile to go on to the second mile. …show more content…
Music in general has been proven to increase a person’s mood, but in a runner it builds confidence in them. It makes a runner feel indomitable. Music relieves stress and anxiety so when a runner is running while they are listening to music they improve their performance. Whether it's baseball, football, or hockey an athlete needs to feel confident and “hype”. In a cross country runner, like myself, the second mile going into the third mile is the toughest. The stress begins to build upward and the thoughts of giving up comes across the mind, but music reassures the boost of assurance.
