Montresor found Fortunato in a festival and was drunk. And soon as Montresor mentioned to him he had amontillado he agreed to go with Montresor to taste the whine as stated “Thus speaking, Fortunato possessed himself of my arm; and putting on a mask of black silk and drawing a roquetlaire closely about my person, I suffered him to hurry me to my palazzo”(). In other words, this shows how Fortunato is obsess with alcohol and decides to go with Montresor even though he was drunk. Also, the fact Fortunato let Montresor to get him even more drunk by giving him alcohol when walking through the underground graveyard. This concludes how alcohol lead Fortunato to his death because just for the simple fact that he wanted to be known as the best whine taster ad wanted to drink …show more content…
In “The Cask of Amontillado” the setting is about death and revenge that Montresor had on his mind. As far at the beginning of the story the author describes the setting when Montresor and Fortunato were walking through the underground graveyard as stated in the story “We had passed through long walls of piled skeletons, with casks and puncheons intermingling, into the inmost recesses of the catacombs” (). In other words, the author gives the reader a hint that there is something sketchy going on and gives an idea what is going to happen. By walking through piles of skeletons we can conclude somebody is going to die and there is been multiple deaths in Montressors
