He goes to the office and asks to see if Wolfsheim is there. The receptionist says he is not but, we can hear Wolfsheim asking the receptionist something. Thus proving that he is there. WhenNicks keeps asking if he is there Wolfsheim doesn’t answer making Nick go and barge in to see him.“Nobody’s in,’ she said.’Mr. Wolfshiem's gone to Chicago.’ The first part of this was obviously untrue, for some one had begun to whistle ‘The Rosary’ tunelessly, inside...
