Eating Disorders
Eating disorders are illnesses that are shown by irregular eating habits and severe distress or concern about body weight or shape. They are life-threatening disorders that both males and females face on a daily basis. Eating disorders come with serious consequences that can harm a person’s emotional and physical health. There are millions of people who have these terrible diseases in today's world.. People think that you just do it to do. Whereas they are actually fatal illness that can greatly harm the body. Eating disorders are not just a lifestyle choice, they are a serious illnesses that are caused by a combination of biopsychosocial factors that play a key role in forming an eating disorder. In today's society the media is one of the main issues that causes eating disorders. Our media and society has greatly encouraged the idea of being extremely thin and slim. As the Sheppard Pratt Health System says, “Our media’s increased obsession with the thin-ideal and industry promotion of a “perfect” body may contribute to unrealistic body ideals in people with and without eating disorders,” (“What Causes” para. 9).Today’s media greatly focus on dieting and getting a very unrealistic slim figure and our society tends to glorify slimness, (“Factors That May Contribute” para. 15). Things like Photoshop are used everyday to make our celebrities and models look like they have that “perfect body” which puts the pressure on people to achieve that unrealistic shape as well.
