How Does Maya Angelou Affect Society

Improved Essays
Maya Angelou was a famous author and performer and had an amazing story to tell. She overcame the trauma of rape and during the time she didn't speak she read every book she could. I think although she was extremely negatively affected and horrified by what happened, she wouldn't be who she was without her past. I chose to write about Maya because she was, and still is, a very inspiring person and has an incredible amount of joy and confidence despite overwhelming circumstances.

Maya said she's skinny, has kinky, black hair, small, skinny eyes, big feet, and a space between her teeth that could hold a number two pencil. I think shes self conscious about her looks, especially since she had said one day her ugliness with disappear and she'll

She had a habit of blaming herself for things completely out of her control. She loved her brother Bailey and loved being around him. He was like an angel to her and the only person she felt comfortable talking to.
Maya was smart and pretty shy; she tries to keep to herself. Her culture was different back then, so i think that affected the way she had to act (more respectful) but that didn't change what she felt inside, and the fact that she thought for herself.
Adults tend to think that she's just a kid and her head is filled with dreams, like any other child's head would be, while other kids make fun of her for her looks, for the way she talks, for being different. This is something that a lot of today's kids have to deal with and the fact that maya is open about the way other kids rejected her can help modern kids understand they can make something of themselves despite what people say.

Maya was smart, a lot smarter than a lot of people gave her credit for, and had an amazing gift for figurative language and poetry. She overcame a horrible time in her life, and in that time gained an incredible amount of information through books. I think that despite her horrible memories and a rough past, she remained an inventive and skilled author and her poetry will continue to inspire

I have read many books in the 16 years I have been alive. However, no book has fulfilled me more than Roshani Chokshi’s extraordinary book The Star-Touched Queen. The Star-Touched Queen is a book written in magnificent prose, which retells the story of Hades and Persephone with Hindu mythology. It has been nominated for an award and has been reviewed positively by many.
