Art Spiegelman's mother mentally scarred from her experience during the holocaust kills herself. After Anja commits suicide art is very affected by her actions and believes it is his fault that she is gone. “It’s his fault - The punk!”(M1.p103) people also believe her death to be his fault. Another event that also guilts him is “do you still...love...me...don’t...you?” Anja asked to which he responded “Sure ma”. However, when he said that he did not mean it sincerely and say it to make her go away. Artie relationship with his father is a bit strange as the way his father acts strains their relationship. Artie also does not get why he commits the action he does “You always pick up trash! Can’t you just buy wire.” (Maus___-) This is an something he would do in Auschwitz because he collect items of any value and trade them in order to survive.
