Shakespeare explored the dark side of the human psyche in Macbeth. He explores our capacity for violence and evil. Macbeth is a tragedy: a kind of play in which human actions have inevitable consequences, in which the characters’ bad deeds, errors, mistakes, and crimes are never forgiven or rectified. In the beginning of the play, the character Macbeth meets three weird sisters. Each sister tells Macbeth a prophecy that will later come true. The first sister says, “All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Glamis!” (1.3.48). Then the second sister says, “All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor!” (1.3.49).
