There are many ways it would change society as it is today. Some are positive others are negative. In places marijuana has already been legalized the crime rates have dropped significantly especially in drug related arrests since the legalization of marijuana. This is because when marijuana is legalized people will often use marijuana rather than other more potent and illegal drugs. Some problems with marijuana legalization in society are the effects on the lifestyles of the users. Often times people that use marijuana become less productive so when many people use the drug it starts to create a less productive and more drug centered society. The truth is on a daily basis if you don't come in contact with marijuana you probably won't experience too many effects. Looking back on the similarities to alcohol and tobacco, marijuana would affect a non-user's life as much or even less than either of those drugs do. If marijuana was to be legalized it would have similar laws as alcohol about public consumption and intoxication. This means if you yourself don’t do the drug or hang around people that do you will rarely see the use of it and it won't impact your life anymore than tobacco or alcohol would.
There are many factors that play into whether marijuana should be legalized for recreational use or not. There are many pros and cons so research could almost never give a perfect answer on whether it should or shouldn't be legalized. It will remain a very controversial topic until it is permanently decided on. Many people side with both options on this topic and neither one of them has enough power to get their way without large amounts of work and time. If it is legalized it could change society completely but if it isn't legalized the law will continue to be broken until this fight is finally put to
