Jamie, who is also in the play, agrees to help him on one condition: Jamie warns Landon not to fall in love with her; he jokes saying he wont, thinking it’s a weird thing to say. Landon and Jamie begin practicing together at her house after school. They get to know each other and a spark of affection arises between them.

On the opening night of the play, Landon improvises and kisses her which is not a part of the play. Afterwards, Jamie stays away from Landon, and it is not until Landon's friends play a prank on Jamie and he protects her, against his friends guides, that she warms up to him again. With the relationship growing, Landon asks Jamie on a date, then asked her father who reluctantly gives in.

Jamie's condition gets worse and worse to the point where she is hospitalized and sent to a private home care by Landon's father, who paid for it, relieving the Ministers financial burden.
