Dramatic irony occurs when the audience knows something that the characters do not. Such as in “The story of an hour” Kate Chopin uses details in the story to involves irony to convey the theme love is blind. My reason is the character Josephine tells Louise “ Open the door! You will make yourself ill.” (Chopin 2) Saying that Josephine thought Louise was grieving from a broken heart because her husband has just died. But in reality she wasn't devastated s the readers knew she was relief and joyous that she was finally free! Another example of how authors use dramatic irony is the story "The Bet" Anton Chekhov uses details in the story to demonstrate that money isn't happiness. The bamker believes that the prisoner is " Dreaming of millions."
