How Does Julius Caesar Use Propaganda

Julius Caesar Essay (Propaganda) Propaganda is used to persuade people to think a certain way. Propaganda is used by the media, by politicians, and in commercials. In Julius Caesar, by William Shakespeare, propaganda is used for the planned demise of Julius Caesar, who is the last of the triumvirate leaders. With Caesar having all of the power over Rome, people became wary of the possible tyrant he could become, and a group of conspirators assassinate him creating a civil war amongst the Roman citizens. Without propaganda use, the plan for killing Caesar might have not worked. Name Calling, Flag Waving, and Promise of Reward are all examples of propaganda in Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar. Brutus and Caesar are also very amicable. Cassius uses Name Calling when he is talking to Brutus about Caesar getting sick in Spain. Cassius tells Brutus, “...I did hear him groan,/Ay, and that tongue of his that bade the Romans/Mark him and write his speeches in their booksㅡ/‘Alas,’ it cried, ‘give me some drink, Titinius,’/As a sick girl” (Shakespeare 38). Cassius is telling Brutus that Caesar was very sick in Spain. The tongue that he uses to boss around Romans is now begging for water. Caesar’s begging shows that he is weak. Secondly, when Cassius is left by Brutus, he talks in a soliloquy. He says Brutus is a noble man and is loved by Caesar. To get Brutus to join him and the conspirators, Cassius plans to write many notes in different handwritings and put them at Brutus’s window. The notes will show how the Romans feel about Caesar becoming the only ruler of all of Rome (Shakespeare 50).
