How Does Jem Show Courage In The Face Of Injustice

To Kill a Mockingbird has many examples of personal courage in the face of injustice, and many people who show it. Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird affected me in many ways and helped me understand what racism was like back then and how life was like in a town where everyone knows everyone. I, in my opinion, think that Jem showed the most courage out of all the people in the book. Even though he might seem wimpy, he does his best to protect others and stand up for what’s right. Jem in the beginning of the book is pretty young and doesn’t show much courage, but when he gets older he shows a lot of courage. For an example, near the end of the book, Jem tries to protect Scout the best he could against the attacker and that took a lot of courage. Other than standing up for one of your family members in a fight, Jem stands up for his family in a non-fighting way that still showed courage. When …show more content…
I think that atticus has the best example because half of the novel revolves around this conflict and the personal courage. When Atticus defends Tom Robinson he has to stand up to all these people who are trying to kill him before the trial even starts. It also takes a lot of courage to be a white man defending a “negro” and say that the white people are lying and that the black man is telling the truth. It wasn’t very convincing back then because there was a huge problem with racism. In conclusion i think that Atticus and Jem show the best examples of personal courage in the face of injustice. Even though there are plenty more examples from other people, I just felt as if these two people showed the best examples. Atticus and Jem were the only two characters in this book who actually “popped” out to me. I say that because they are the most interesting people in my opinion and hold many secrets, like Atticus and how he has the best shot in

The most obvious act of courage is when he agrees to defend a black man named Tom Robinson. He knows that this could cause trouble for his family, and no one will agree or support his decision. He also knows that he won't be winning this case, but he does it because he knows it's the right thing to do which requires great courage. Here is a dialogue between Scout and Atticus that shows that even though he knows he won't win the case, he believes that it is still worth it to try: "Atticus, are we going to win it?” “No, honey.”…
