How Does Javert Change In Les Miserables

In movies and books, the most intense moment has to be the plot twist. Usually this occurs when the audience's attention is grabbed, and the author or director changes the story for what could be better or worse. In Les Miserables, the movie based on the book by Victor Hugo, we find a huge plot twist right at the very end of the movie. Throughout the film we watch Javert and Valjean interact with each other and by watching the movie once the viewer loves Valjean’s kindness and compassion for others. However, the biggest change in someone's character is Javert. Throughout the movie he remains cold to change but at the end we watch him take his own life because he refused to change.
We first meet Javert at the begging of the movie with a quick clip of him in a flashback sequence with Valjean. Javert was a prison guard who had met Valjean when he was in prison for stealing bread. During that time, when someone committed a crime, you would forever be a convict. Many believed that you couldn’t change and Javert was no different. Javert realizes that Valjean is the mayor after an incident involving a wagon and Valjean’s amazing strength. “I’m ready to denounce him,” Javert exclaimed after this action. However, Javert didn’t have enough proof to officially renounce Valjean. Valjean had completely changed

He captured Valjean. He let Valjean say his final goodbyes and took him back to the docks where he would finish the job for good. He placed handcuffs on Valjean and pushed him to the edge of the docks. “I tried to live my life without breaking a single rule...” exclaimed Javert as he removed the cuffs off Valjean. “You’re free” He says as he places the handcuffs on himself. Javert then jumps into the river and dies. Shocked by this act of compassion Valjean then leaves the dock smiling and goes home to Cossete. This was the biggest plot twist in the movie.
