For the purpose of this essay, the main personality traits that will be focussed on are extraverts versus introverts. Openness having characteristics such as imagination and insight and that people that score high with this trait have a broad range of interests. People that score highly with the neuroticism trait can be emotional instable, suffer from anxiety, moodiness, irritable and sad.
Extraverts are people that are excitable, sociable, talkative, assertive and express themselves emotionally. The opposite to this trait is an introvert. These are people that prefer to work alone, are less assertive, are not as social, do not express themselves emotionally, they are reserved and prefer to stay at home rather than attend a social function.
How do these different personality traits work with each other within a team environment? As with any situation there are always differences in personality. If this balance isn’t right, you are going to have conflict amongst the extraverts (if too many), and if too many introverts, you are going to have a team that lacks leadership and are slow to step up to the plate.
In conclusion, this essay has through research explained the Five Factor Model of Personality, and the five models. It has looked at the way in which the differences in personality traits work together and how they have to be managed to ensure that group dynamics are not lost.
