His jealousy made him want revenge against Othello and uses betrayal in order to execute it. He has betray Othello by using the trust and friendship between them against him. Iago betrays Othello by ruining his marriage with Desdemona. Iago is committing this treacherous act because is a malicious, self-intilited man fueled by jealousy. Iago desire power and wants to destroy those who have wronged him who was Othello. He see the opportunity to do it when Othello ask him to get close with his wife with Iago’s wife. Where is the betrayal in these event, well first the betrayal is evident in his trust. Trust is a powerful thing between two people, if there is a lack of trust between they are less likely to believe each other. Iago betrayals Othello by telling him lies and Othello believes them as he trusts Iago’s words. Iasgo strengthen his trust with Othello and diminishes the trust between Othello and Desdemona. He betrays him without Othello knowing. Another betrayal that helps destroy othello relation was the handkerchief. When Desdemona loses her handkerchief, Emilia has seize the handkerchief and presents it to Iago. Instead of giving it back to them he instead said “ I will in Cassio’s lodging lose this napkin”(III.iii.369). This clearly show that he betrays Othello by doing this. The handkerchief would help him exacerbate the relationship between Desdemona and Othello. If Iago did not betray Othello and Desdemona by returning the handkerchief but he does not. The handkerchief Iago a choice to make, Iago chose to use the handkerchief for his own gain. The handkerchief help creating a narrative that Desdemona is having an affair with Cassio. This narrative drives Othello to confront Desdemona and the confrontation with her led him to distrust her and further believe the false accusation of the affair.
