Culture; the basis of society, and the determinant of how people act, think, and believe. Without culture, society would be a desolate and dark place, lacking diversity and a personality. Everybody would be living on biological instincts, rather than cultural values. Culture has reflected and shaped society in many ways; it has been a representation of people’s lives, it has changed the morals and values in society, and it has altered the views of identity. Society will only thrive if it continues to interact with the many cultures.

Besides stereotypes, culture has set fixed views on characteristics such as gender, nationality, religion, and other parts of identity. One example would be from various clips from the film “It’s time for school 3.” In some stories like Shugufa’s, Neeraj’s, and Nanavi’s, it is believed that women are the ones who are supposed to do housework, rather than going to school. As a result of poor education, it is mostly women who are illiterate in some poor countries that lack a stable education system, such as in Benin. The film “It’s time for school 3” suggests the fact that in many cultures, it is believed that education is very important; however, in some of the cultures, there was the fixed rule that women do the housework, such as in Neeraj and Shugufa’s culture. In DBQ Document 6, it was also stated that two issues that have created gaps in education are gender disparity and racial difference. The film and the document both suggest that culture has been a major influence on gender roles and views of education. These sources also show how culture has shaped society in many ways, both negatively and positively. The absence of culture would have left society to change based on uncultured ideals, and society would not be what it is
