Holden throughout the story is surrounded by adults and others around his age. Holden is mostly negative throughout the story besides when he is near children he because a whole new person. When Holden is in the museum and 2 children walk up to him and asks,”where the mummies were,(25.34)” this means that the 2 kids are wondering where the mummies are. This matters because Holden is a type of guy that only help people below his age.
Finally, Holden values family accidents. Holden had a little brother named Allie who died from leukemia on July 18, 1946, which made Holden really sad. Holden is probably thinking and interpreting children as Allie to make him feel more better for himself. When Holden says,”My hand still hurts me once in awhile when it rains and all, and I can't make a real fist anymore – not a tight one, I mean – but outside of that I don't care much,” it means that his hands still hurt when he punched all the windows and garbage cans in the summerhouse where Allie died.
In conclusion, Holden wants to be the “Catcher in the Rye” to show how much he cares for children and how the “cliff” is growing up. When Mr. Antolini talks to Holden about some advice, he is worried about Holden and wants to help him. Holden is afraid of change and wants to stay the same to make him feel happy but someday the adulthood would catch up to
