How Does Holden Overcome Depression In Catcher In The Rye

The Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger centers around a boy named Holden. Throughout the book Holden is depressed and is having a hard time fitting in. He lost his brother at a young age. He has been expelled kicked out of four schools and is scared to face his parents. He then goes to New York to try to escape the loneliness. In Holden’s case, all of these events bring him down and lead him to self harm and depression, but as J.D Salinger shows us this can all be overcome by letting someone you love in.
