In the novel “The Catcher in the Rye” by J.D. Salinger, We learn that Holden Caulfield is mostly affected by two characters. One is Jane Gallagher the girl of his dream and the other is his younger brother Allie Caulfield who died from leukemia at eleven. These two characters plays a huge role in Holden’s life. Jane Gallagher and Allie Caulfield has a great influence on Holden’s actions throughout the novel; they are what keep Holden moving even at his lowest point. Jane Gallagher is the only girl that truly capture Holden’s heart and he think about her every once in awhile. Holden didn’t deal with Allie’s death so well and was never the same after his death. Holden reminisced about Allie very often and think how intelligent and pure that kid was. Holden still hold on to his brother and every time he get to the the end of the block; Holden reach out to Allie and said “Allie, don’t let me disappeared”. When Phoebe claim Holden doesn’t like anything after dropping out Of Pencey he replied “I like Allie,”. Allie is the glue that keeps Holden together; he is apart of Holden’s humanity. Holden deeply care for Jane more than life itself. Holden relationship with Jane is somewhat complicated. He is able to recall every details he remember about her and think about her almost every single moment. Holden consider running off with Sally Hayes, But when she blow him off he think about Jane again. She is the only person who has ever shared Allie’s baseball mitt with. Jane is the closest thing to happiness for Holden. Jane Gallagher and Allie Caulfield are the two people that will forever be on Holden’s mind and has a love for them that will never run out.
