Hamlets relationship with Ophelia is a complicated one with everything hamlet is going through and the various conflicts dealing with hamlet and his revenge for his father’s death. With the murder of his father’s death by the hands of his own uncle and the planning on killing the new king. This is shown and demonstrated when hamlet sent Ophelia a letter saying “never doubt I love” (11.1.127) and soon after Ophelia showed the letter to her father, Polonius who hamlet did not trust. When hamlet found out that Ophelia showed the letter to her father he knew that from then on he had to restrain his love from Ophelia herself as much as he can in order to protect her. Hamlets motivation for this is the fear of Claudius getting revenge on hamlet for interfering with Claudius plans to marry his mother and the killing of his father which hamlet wants to prove that Claudius is the one who killed the king in order to be the new king.
