How Does Grief Affect Romeo's Death

Does grief affect people's decision making? Death is a main contributor to plans that occur in Romeo and Juliet but some of the most influential ones could be the deaths of Paris and Tybalt. In Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Paris and Tybalt’s deaths have many differences and similarities that affect how Romeo made decisions. In Romeo and Juliet the differences and similarities of Paris and Tybalt’s deaths affect Romeo’s decisions. Paris and Tybalt’s deaths had many differences that affected Romeo’s decisions. When Romeo killed Paris, he no longer cared about what was going to happen because this finalized that Romeo would never be able to live even if he decided against killing himself.. Romeo says, “For fear that I still will stay with thee / And from this palace of dim night / Depart again” (5.3. 106-108). Romeo already knew in his mind that he wasn’t going to leave the tomb, that he was going to stay there with Juliet forever. Romeo immediately regretted killing Paris after he realized who it was.Romeo declared, “Mercutio’s kinsman, noble County Paris! / What said my man when my betossed soul / Did not attend him as we rode?” (5.3.75-77). When Romeo discovered that the person that had resisted his entrance to the cave was Paris he was immediately remorseful. Romeo might not have killed Paris if he had known it was Paris. In Tybalt’s case Romeo felt upset that Tybalt’s death would cause more trouble between the families. Romeo exclaims, “ O, I am fortune’s fool!”(3.1.129). Romeo after killing Tybalt was regretful because he knew that this would upset the balance that was barely still there. He also knew that he would most likely be put to death and never be able to be with Juliet again. Romeo Regretted both Paris and Tybalt’s deaths because there was consequences with their
