Gould continued to visit his newest doctor, Dr. Percival, regularly. Dr Percival felt that Gould needed psychological help more than medical help, as he would often come to him just to hold his hand and talk. Glenn Gould’s health further deteriorated with the sudden passing of his mother. His cousin Jessie believed that Gould never got over her death as he would tell him about reoccurring dreams that he had of her (Ostwald, 291). This catastrophic event began to rapidly age Gould physically as his neck and shoulders started to stiffen and his appearance also began to ripen. Prior to his death in 1982, it was noted that his anxiety continued to worsen and his list of prescriptions grew as well. Gould passed away on October 4, 1982 as the result of a fatal stroke that damaged his brain
