Why Is God Important To Me?

I was born in a Muslim community, about 90% of the people that I grew up with believed that Islam was the one true religion and all other religions were false. Me being a child, unable to think for myself at the time, pretty much automatically started believing the same things as those around me. I remember very clearly thinking that there is a man in the sky who created these people called Adam and Eve that they are the ancestors of every living human being on earth, And that Every single human being will be judged according to their actions during the time they are alive. They 're not quite the same, but they share a massive amount of similarities. They both believe in the same Abrahamic God who created Adam and Eve and caused the great flood and told Noah to build an Ark....etc etc. Muslims though are way more in your face than Christians are. I noticed that Christians tended to cherry pick verses from their holy book a little more than Muslims do, whereas Many Muslims don 't care if what 's written in the quran is absurd. In the Bible if you go Read Leviticus 19:19 it says ' 'Keep my decrees. " 'Do not mate different kinds of animals. " 'Do not plant your field with two kinds of seed. " 'Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material." I 'm pretty sure most Christians today don 't care if they wear blended fabrics. There 's a similar thing in Islam where men cannot wear silk or gold, yet I 'm sure there are Muslims who do. It is small things such as these that start to make you wonder. I quickly realized that I had been lied to by both the Muslims and The Christians... My intention was never to stop believing God, but only to understand the incredible universe around me, and in doing so, I realized that there is no good evidence supporting the existence of any Gods. There is no proof that a higher power exists or has ever existed. All we have are ancient books from unverifiable sources that could have easily been edited, and contain no information that is valuable to us in anyway. The only reason we have for believing in a higher power is the fear of non existence. People are terrified by the concept of death and a finite existence. The idea that there is life after death is comforting to many. Personally, I have come to accept the idea that this will be my one and only existence. I did want to believe that an eternal life full of happiness and joy awaited me after my death, but now I realize that I only wanted that, because I was told that it 's what I should
