They would say he had whereabouts around the farm at nighttime when the animals were asleep, and while he was creeping around the farm he would steal something, or it came to a

One of the ways they did this was with saying things like "Jones will come back". None of the animals on the farm ever liked Mr. Jones, so when they were convincing the animals that something was right and this way is the best way, they would use "surely, you don't want Jones to come back". The animal government also switched the Seven Commandments around, and then used propaganda to convince the animals that it was fine, with an element of fear. Since the pigs were the head of the farm and they made all the decisions, they "deserved" to have the extra milk and apples and sleep in beds. That would have the animals be in fear for their future, and lead to

The ongoing corruption from the powerful pigs in Animal Farm was used more than once to sway the memories and thoughts of the other animals. During a debate on the farm, Napoleon, one of the two most powerful pigs, ran the other powerful pig, Snowball, away from Animal Farm. From that point on, opinions on Snowball changed drastically; those animals who adored Snowball now believed that he was a traitor and the root of all problems on the farm. Snowball was even reduced to “no better than a criminal” (Orwell). This use of Snowball as a scapegoat allowed Napoleon to not only blame the farm’s problems on someone other than himself, but was also proof of how greatly he could impact the animal’s opinions, using his power.…

Napoleon, similar to his real-life analogue, was also much more adept than Snowball at garnering support privately, in between speeches. As time progressed on the Animal Farm, the original ideals that defined it were gradually perverted by the increasingly corrupt leadership. For instance,…
