Throughout the 1920’s American sexuality has transformed people from all gender. The idea changed women to a new form of sexuality known as the “flapper.” The flapper was a fashion style symbolizing the new woman of the era. The style is where women wore hemlines above the knees as well as rolled down hoses. The fashion style gave young women from all over the world, the ability to display a new sense of sexuality and have the freedom to do so. Women looked classy, sexy and elegant whether they were out in the workforce, on the dance floor or going on a date. The flapper was also an eye catching style, made women look physically attractive, changed their personality and increased their self-confidence in who they are. I never heard about the flapper until I read the chapter. What is interesting is this style of fashion created a new sense of understanding to why female sexuality was changing at this time and how it has influenced the fashion styles of today.
Sexual freedom became a big influence to many traditional values during the 1920’s. Whether or not a person was male or female, when being married to one another, everyone believed the relationship to be a heterosexual one. As it was then as it is now, to some degree, husbands take on the role / responsibilities to being a father and the same goes for wives being mothers. When it comes to colleges and education, the idea / influence of sex has not changed. Movies to some extent have shown sexuality and sex, as to being normal whether on the big screen or in reality.
