How Does Ethan Hawke Differentiate Itself

Improved Essays
Ethan Hawke delivers a good performance as a true-crime author moving into a crime-scene house to write his latest book. He gets more than he bargained for when he discovers a box of "home movies" in the attack and things soon become very creepy. As with all movies you need to suspend your disbelief somewhat to enjoy Sinister, but it remains tense throughout and there are a couple of good scares. The quality of this blu ray release is excellent and it also includes a couple of very nice bonus features to keep you entertained after the credits have rolled. If you are a fan of the genre then you will enjoy Sinister.

When you think about a horror film, usually there is a lot of blood and gore involved but this film stayed away from the norm and took more of a realistic approach. There were no special effects to try and scare the viewers or anything of that nature. The director used real life events that could occur to grab the attention of the audience in a creepy way. There were a lot of dark undertones used as well as spooky sounds and an eerie soundtrack. In looking at the cinematography, there was a lot of fading in and out of the camera to exaggerate the horror in the film.…

Where as I normally end up arguing against why a film should be considered a horror film, this time I'm going other way and argue why Lightning Bug is a Horror film. As I stated in Horror, My Definition, a Horror film is a film that used dread and horror, while trying to evoke negative emotions. Lightning Bug does that for me, upon first viewing I wasn't that impressed and disregarded is horror elements. Instead focusing on how its a Coming of Age Drama. But after viewing the film never really settled and has passed through my mind on several occasions and when I reflect on the film it's dark and haunting undertones that remain.…

The Holidays are now over and what better way to get back into the swing of things by watching a bad movie. Okay, bad might not be the best term to describe The Brain That Wouldn't Die, as it certainly isn't the worst movie I've witnessed before. Yes, the plot is paper thin and could've easily been trimmed down to a solid 20-minute episode of Twilight Zone or something similar, but overall I enjoyed the movie enough. However, the movie isn't the main reason to pick up Scream Factory's new Blu-ray. No, the reason to pick it up is the Mystery Science Theater 3000 special feature, which goes through the entire movie and is a blast to sit through.…

In her realist novel, Ethan Frome, Edith Wharton strategically crafts a story that highlights the contrast between two opposing archetypal images, winter and darkness versus summer and light, in order to draw forth a comparison between the effect that both Zeena, Ethan’s wife, and Mattie, Ethan’s love interest, have on Ethan. Zeena’s stark personality and depressive aura causes her to exemplify the desolate qualities of winter, dragging Ethan into a life classified by lonely days and even lonelier nights. On the other hand, Mattie stands on the opposite side of the spectrum as seen in her warm personality that seemingly melts away the cold layer of isolation cast upon him by Zeena. This constant switching from liveliness to a lack of it characterizes Ethan as somewhat of a…

I really enjoyed this film the characters were fun and so was the dialogue. The film almost remind me of 10 Things I Hate About You which was said to be based of a Shakespeare play The Taming of the Shrew, in which the leading lady was originally against marriage yet somehow was tricked into one. Jan is the shrew which is defined as an ill-tempered woman characterised by scolding and nagging and Brad is the man that tames her as his alter ego Rex. Rex represents everything Brad is not and that is the only reason why Jan fell in love with him. In my honest opinion, Brad is a creepy and I would not want go to his house of horrors for anything.…

These are questions that can be probed throughout Edith Wharton’s novel and answered by an evaluation of the main characters. 5. Ethan’s misery is both a result of the uncontrollable circumstances around him and the unwise decisions of Frome. Starkfield itself was a place where a dead community contrasted the vital climate (Wharton 7-8). Frome belonged to this dead community, and his emaciated look was obviously not the result of poverty or physical suffering alone—in fact, the unnamed narrator noticed that Frome’s refined interest in the sciences sharply contrasted his outer situation, proving that his misery came from a complex situation (Wharton 15). Ethan lived in a “complete absence of atmosphere”, forced to end his studies prematurely after his father’s death (Wharton 24).…

The insightful horror/comedy Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, directed by Eli Craig, is a good-natured reminder that blood and gore can achieve more than just cheap scares. Tucker and Dale begins with a car of college students driving to a cabin deep in the woods. Within the first minute it's clear they're satirical caricatures of college kids. Twice along their way they have ominous encounters with the hillbillies Tucker and Dale. Soon after it's revealed Tucker and Dale are actually the protagonists.…

First, think of all the horror films you have heard of or seen: A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Chucky. The majority of horror films are predictable (Carroll 97). Slasher films are especially predictable: run, scream, die, in no particular order. If you read this guide then you are not going to do that. I assure you.…
