Systems Theory Of Human Behavior

Good Essays
Although human behavior can most often be ambiguous, I have always felt that I had a decent understanding of it and the circumstances as to how environment can alter human behavior. Since attending graduate school and learning about different theories related to human behavior, my views on it have changed somewhat. The complexity of human behavior can often make it seem very overwhelming to understand or analyze, however, the readings I have done in the past few months have shed some light and opened new doors of possibility pertaining to the understanding of human behavior. Even after the theories learned through our readings, I am still a firm believer that human behavior is closely related to the environment in which one lives. Now, …show more content…
I believe that individuals are molded by their surroundings and their important interactions with those in their micro and mezzo levels of their systems. The Systems Theory explains human behavior as a result of social interactions and interactions in social settings (Rogers, 2013, p.32). Due to the fact that humans do not solely interact with just their immediate circle or their micro level, I believe that the Systems Theory has more dimension than other theories. It includes looking at many organizations that can affect human behavior, such as schools and communities in which one lives. Within each of these, there are multiple other factors on a more micro level, such as family members or school faculty. To me, all interactions with others can affect the way someone behaves and the Systems Theory emphasizes this. Another key concept of the Systems Theory that I believe to be important is maintaining homeostasis (Rogers, 2013, p.40). Homeostasis is balancing stability within systems, which I believe to be crucial for human growth and the result of human behavior. The Systems Theory allows social workers to look into multidimensional aspects of someone’s life, and that is imperative to promote healthy …show more content…
Often, I am very stuck in my beliefs and human behavior is one of them. Although, our readings thus far have definitely provided me with extremely valuable information, my initial beliefs on human behavior has not changed much. Since learning about different theories in class and through readings however, it has allowed me to see other environmental factors that may contribute to certain human behaviors. More importantly though, learning about human behavior and the environment and the different theories that are practiced, has taught me multiple ways to view different situations and how to approach each one uniquely with hopes of the best

Thus far, I think that I have learned briefly some of the major concepts involved in the academic study of human relations. Throughout this class I have engaged in critical thinking and introspection and I have been able to apply human relation principles to my personal and professional life. All of the knowledge I have learned I not only apply it to myself but I try to help and open up other people’s minds with it so they will get a clear understanding. I learn to be able to pass on my knowledge others and maybe they will pass it on but it makes a significant difference in people’s lives. I always say it’s like getting the key to life but being able to unlock yourself mentally. This is the reason why I love taking classes like this, I love to learn about myself and how to fix my flaws but more importantly how to evolve into a better understanding person…

Overall, this was a great experience, and it taught me that the situation may be similar, but there are always lessons to learn. After the first simulation I knew much more information about strokes than before and after this simulation, I know even more. Knowing not to approach from the stroke side and having the insight to why a patient may not be finishing their plate are important pieces of information that will assist me in future interactions with patients and…

My BA is psychology in sociology helped me feel secure in a lot of areas of practice. The knowledge I gained over this semester, coupled with what I learned in undergrad, helped solidify strengths I thought I already had. I was already a good active listener, but the strategies learned in this class have helped me to more finely tune that ability. I am still a little worried about working with clients that I might be able to put aside any bias I have for them, like a child molester or someone who committed sexual assault. This semester has made me more secure in my ability to make the right to decision and providing referrals in the appropriate situation.…

Overall Reflection Where I began the semester thinking practicum class was just a place where I and others could complain freely about our placements, that notion began to change very quickly. I learned that while practicum class is a safe place to share our frustrations and concerns, it is also a place where we can learn to cope and confront those frustrations and concerns. Our class is more of a professional development group than a class, in which students can digest and unify important classroom material with the practical experience our placements provide. I also fully appreciate the diversity of our class, I have learned so much from others’ experiences not just at their placement but their life experience as well. During the first…

Through participation in this project, I have learned a lot about design process, working as a group, and communicating with teachers. I know that everything I just wrote sounds really cliche but let me explain. For example, I learned that design process and research go hand in hand . We had to research a lot of systems and the overall topic of hydroponics. By researching, we were able to create an efficient design because we were able to see what works and what doesn’t and what is necessary and what isn’t.…

It is constantly changing, depending on our social interactions, teaching us how to think, feel and behave and use these experiences as a yardstick to measure ourselves. However, what is considered a norm and deviance are largely a matter of social construction, in an effort to set up, and maintain social order, yet it doesn’t mean that these definitions can’t change. According to the functionalist perspective, deviance can be a good thing, meaning not only can punishment of deviance reinforce the norms, and convince society, as a whole that these standards are valid, but it can actually allow us to grow and change as a society, to reevaluate our definition of our societal…

As people grow, there are a plethora of factors that affect their development. Some would argue that certain personality traits are innate, or that perhaps we are molded by the environments in which we grow, but most would be inclined to agree that many traits are learned from those around us. We as people are social creatures, so it makes sense that an individual’s personal development would be affected by those with whom they interact.…
