Donald Trump's Arguments Against Illegal Immigrants

Improved Essays
When Americans speak about the American dream, they tend to exclude that dream from people such as illegal immigrants. People like Donald Trump do not think these people matter, and he suggests that these immigrants are a major problem in America right now. He throws accusations at them, and they have been a target in Trump’s campaign, namely illegal immigrants from Mexico. He has claimed that illegal immigrants are stealing jobs from legal citizens, that they’re merely rapists, drug dealers and killers. Despite these accusations that Donald Trump has made against illegal Mexican immigrants, these claims are unjust, and are only made to create fear to get supporters.

In a recent report, it writes, “The number of unauthorized immigrants more than tripled - During the same period, FBI data indicate that the violent crime rate declined 48 percent—which included falling rates of aggravated assault, robbery, rape, and murder {Figure 3}”(Ewing). In other words, even though illegal immigrants increased, in the same timespan violence had decreased and not the other way around. Trump had made the argument that a large majority of undocumented immigrants are criminals and are causing offenses, but from these studies it only shows that there is no relationship between the two factors, rendering Trump’s claim …show more content…
Despite the stereotypical claims that most illegal immigrants bring in drugs, Bersani is quoted saying, “"Foreign-born individuals exhibit remarkably low levels of involvement in crime across their life course”(Bump). From what is stated, it’s to assume that not only illegal immigrants don’t get involved in criminal activities such as drug trafficking, but many other immigrants don’t get involved as well. Trump is only causing alarm if most of these people aren’t involved in criminal activities such as drug dealing to begin

The president’s immigration policy has very few strengths such as preventing gang members from receiving immigration benefits and improving visa security by expanding State Department’s authority to combat visa fraud (Trump Administration Immigration Policy, 2017). In 2015, suspect Emmanuel Jesus Rangel-Hernandez avoided deportation through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy. Emmanuel was charged with first-degree murder that resulted in the death of 4 people (The Scoop, 2015). Despite his criminal record and known gang ties, he was still granted to stay. Preventing gang members to receive immigration benefits is a strength because it can ensure public safety and even national security.…

In an interview, Donald John Trump, an American businessperson and a Republican candidate running for president, specified: “ The immigrants are bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, and they’re rapists. It’s coming from Mexico. It’s coming from the south and Latin America and it’s coming, probably, from the Middle East, but we don’t know because we have no protection.” As a result of the immigrants coming into America, Trump wants to create the immigration plan. If Trump’s plan is carried out, the Mexicans would be unauthorized to enter America because of the “great great wall,” possible recessions and riots would take place, and all illegal immigrants including the birthright citizens will be forced to leave America.…

The fact that Trump stated that illegal immigrants from Mexico are criminals and that they pay very little in taxes is blatantly false and therefore, an invalid argument. Illegal immigrants pay their fair share of taxes to the government. An inductive argument directly related to this is that the person hired to investigate Trump University had a Hispanic last name therefore forcing Trump to try to fire him for his Mexican heritage. Trump thinks that if all illegal Mexican are criminals and the person hired to investigate Trump University has a Hispanic last name therefore, that person must be an illegal Mexican. Trump did make some very valid arguments which are good ways to evaluate deductive arguments, in that the flow of illegal immigrants…

For example, Trump refers to the Government Accountability Office to prove that there were three million arrests in the year 2011 that were attached to the alien population of America, all including murders, beatings and rapes (Trump 2). His referral to an official organization betters his background knowledge on immigration in the United States, which shows his audience that he understands what his words mean. Donald Trump also uses statistics to back up his information, such as explaining how today, nearly 40 percent of black teenagers and 30 percent of Hispanic teenagers are unemployed, which proves that America’s immigration policies have ruined the middle class, even though they are the major backbone of America itself. Opposing Trump’s speech, the New York Times article also provides strong, credible sources to provide their own…

In one of his campaign speeches, as well as on twitter, presidential candidate Donald Trump has accused undocumented Mexican immigrants as “rapists, drug dealers, and murderers.” This accusation is heavily unfounded and extremely hurtful to the Mexican community. Maybe if Donald Trump knew that crime rates are lower with undocumented immigrants, as well as murders according to the --. Calling us rapists is another unfounded accusation when according to a Fusion investigation, 80% of Central American women have been raped while crossing the border by coyotes or even border patrol officers themselves. This is so common, in fact, that women are actually crossing while on contraceptives as a precaution.…

With his slogan “America First” and since his presidency we all know that Donald Trump has something against immigrants. I remember one time I was at Starbucks to study for a test when I heard a conversation from the table next to me. Two elderly white gentlemen’s were talking about how our country is because of the immigrants out of control and how they take our jobs away. I mean we do have control our country so we do not have an overpopulation, but to unfairly targeting the immigrants and give them the fault is not ok neither. We need to find a way to help people who have nothing, if I would be in their position I would be happy to have support and help too.…

Therefore, having illegal immigrants in the United States is a flawed idea. I believe the people from another country deserve a path to citizenship in the US as long as we know who they are. I think that illegal immigrants can also help the US economy. But with them causing harm it can undetermine their helpfulness. Lastly, we should deport illegal immigrants if they aren’t documented and if we don’t know who they…

The slogan that propelled Donald Trump into his influence across the nation, “make America great again,” shows that Trump sees America has fallen downhill and has hopes to improve it. Trump wants to see this country go back to the prosperous country it once was, but he does not know how to filter his words according to most, which makes him seem frightening. Despite Clinton’s accusation about the risk of Donald Trump, his clever use of scare tactics gives voters a sense of security because of his ideas concerning immigration and terrorism. According to Molly Ball, author of “Donald Trump and the Politics of Fear,” Donald Trump uses fear to his advantage in hopes of winning the presidential election.…

Another set of deciding factors are deeply engrained ideologies such as political orientation, belief that there are too many immigrants in an individual’s area, and personal levels of nationalism. This category is perhaps the greatest indicator of negative attitudes toward immigrants and opinions about high immigrant criminality. In recent years, political leanings have come to be one of the most accurate indicators of beliefs on immigrant criminality, with those who lean Liberal believing less in immigrant criminality, and those leaning towards the Right holding the opposite (Krogstad 2015). Similarly, perception of how many immigrants live in an individual’s neighborhood is a strong indicator of intense beliefs regarding immigrant criminality.…

It’s because of like these that encourage the same behavior that we have been trying to overcome since the beginning of the United States. Many undocumented immigrants have kids living in the United States, and they suffer too, even if they aren’t undocumented immigrants. Among Republicans, 71% say immigrants in the U.S. are making crime worse, compared with just 34% of Democrats, according to the newly released survey. Meanwhile, Republicans are just half as likely as Democrats (24% vs. 55%) to say immigrants are not having much effect on crime. - On views of immigrants, Americans largely split along party lines. Immigrants are less likely to commit serious crimes or be behind bars than the native-born and high rates of immigration are associated with lower rates of violent crime and property crime. This holds true for both legal immigrants and the unauthorized, regardless of their country of origin or level of education.…
