The expression children learn what they live is not only a great saying, it rings of truth (see fig. 1). If a child grows up watching a constant violent fight between the parents they will learn that type of behavior is acceptable and will have the exact same traits towards their significant other because they weren’t taught that it is unacceptable. Children who grow up in domestic violence are 3 times more likely to repeat the same actions in adulthood. Learning domestic violence at an early age can drastically affect an adolescent, giving them the opportunity to be violent, self harm, and/or commit a crime that could lead to incarceration.
