Effect of Surface Area on the number of species in biodiversity.
Yes, there is a relationship between species diversity and size, the smaller the habitat the less diversity of species there will be.
Species diversity is the variety of organisms that make up a community
It has two components:
• SPECIES RICHNESS: is the total number of different species in the area
• RELATIVE ABANDANCE: is the proportion each species represents in that certain measured area. we recognize three types of biodiversity 1.genetic diversity 2.species diversity and 3.ecosystem diversity ( COUNTRY LIFE ,April 2011.)
Species diversity means a measurement of species richness and evenness as well as the variety of organisms …show more content…
The serious consequences of biodiversity are that these plants reproductive over their boundaries and this leads to plants being alienate (Llewellyn Foxcroft 2005). Plants overstepping their boundaries is due to the large area size surroundings them , Species turnover is greater along rainfall gradient than top lands because of space ( Elsivier Science ltd 2000) species grow much better and more diverse when there is more availability for space and better temperature factors such as sunlight because there might also be space but not enough factors to diverse the species in that area so that means evenness of species contribute in diversity .
GATHERING OF DATA
1.The effect of species diversity in an area
2.the larger the surface area the abundant the species
3.data collected in a veld to see the variety of wild plant species (Tower Butterweed, Arrow Butterweed, Pestle Lomatium , Pearly Everlasting , Spring Beauty and Freesia ) in an increasing surface area
4. there will be an abundant of Tower Butterweed.
