Other diseases could have been gained from plants and animals. Many deadly plants were not noticed until after it was too late, take the Datura for instance.…

In addition to that, there was a lack of comfort due to the absence of cooling in the summers and heating during the winters (Basok, 2002). Correspondingly, health conditions were also major concerns in the lives of the Mexican farm workers. The insufficient living and working conditions would increase the health risks for the migrant workers (Hennebry, 2010). Additionally, the lack of training and equipment would lead to infectious diseases, which could not be treated due to the dearth of healthcare benefits. Furthermore, the social closure was also present as one of the Mexican consulates encouraged a worker to head back to Mexico because he had been suffering from a kidney failure (Lee, 2003).…

History has a tendency of repeating itself from the forms of leadership to tactics of war to the plagues that kill many. Ebola originated in West Africa in the 21st century more than five hundred years after the Black Plague. The Black Plague occurred in Europe during the middle ages and left a great impact on society. Although Ebola never reached the mass scale of the Black Plague it still had a traumatic impact on societies. Ebola and the Black Plague differ in the environment of the societies prior to contact, the symptoms, and impacts on societies; yet, are similar in the initial spread of infection, public reactions, and the rate at which they spread.…

The Black Death was the largest disaster in European history which killed off more than one-third of the total population. Infectious rats could be found on almost every merchant caravan or trade ship which carried the disease throughout Europe rather quickly. This infectious disease was found in three different forms; septicemic, pneumonic, and bubonic. Septicemic plague occurred when the bacteria multiplied in the blood killing the host in a matter of days because it showed the least amount of symptoms. Pneumonic plague was the most serious form where the bacteria would infect the lungs causing chest pains and trouble breathing.…

This question is brutally honest, there have been problems with undernourishment and sewage for years, but just one case of polio causes a full investigation. While reading this section, I could relate to the standpoint of the villagers and from the standpoint of Dr. Pankaj. I felt this way because I too would get upset if more measures and infrastructure were not being set in place to prevent the further spread of polio, but from the viewpoint of Dr. Pankaj I feel that eradicating and vaccinating every child would be better for the community. This challenge is something that I could face, if I decide to get involved with global health initiatives outside of the United States. My views have been changed in for the better.…

The definitive diagnosis is through an acid fast stain of the bacteria in a lab, obtained through multiple sputum cultures and a chest x-ray showing abnormalities of the lungs. There is antibiotic treatment for tuberculosis but the bacteria is very drug resistant due to the stiff structure of the cell wall and as a result, the antibiotic course is long and sometimes dangerous due to serious side effects. The most common antibiotics used to treat TB are isoniazid and rifampicin for a minimum of six months. There are drug-resistant strains of TB known as MDR-TB and in these cases, several drugs are used at once to give treatment a better chance at success. Those who have latent TB are treated right away with one antibiotic to prevent the disease from becoming active at some point in time.…
